We’re still in the middle of summer, but if you’re like me, you’re already dreaming about season change. The cooler air, the crisp of the leaves, the pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pie, apple cider & most importantly, the Fall & Winter décor.
One of my favorite parts of Fall (and Winter) is hosting family and friends for dinner. Creating a tablescape that we can all sit around while we eat our favorite foods is one of the highlights of the season for me. It’s true that what really matters is who you’re spending your time with, but creating a welcoming, beautiful and purposeful tablescape shows your guests that you want this time spent together to be special.
See below for an easy how-to guide on putting together a tablescape that will wow your guests.
What is a tablescape?
A tablescape is essentially the overall setting for your table. Typically, it entails some or all of the below:
- Stemware, cups, plates, bowls and other dinnerware
- Utensils
- Placemats, runner, a tablecloth, napkins
- Some type of centerpiece, whether something large or one that runs along the length of the table
- Greenery or florals
- Other accessories
How do I start?
Think about the mood you want to set for the meal and/or day and that will help you decide on the rest of the elements including:
- Colors
- Textures
- Accessories
- Greenery/Florals
- Candles
Where can I get décor, stemware, cups, plates bowls and dinnerware?

Most of the above will have faux options, but I recommend adding in some fresh options too. Check out:
- Local flower shops (my favorite in St. Pete is Posies Flower Truck)
- Local Farmer’s Market
- Trader Joe’s
- Local grocery stores, like Fresh Market or even Publix
- Outside in your yard, or food items that you’re already using for the meal
